How does stainless steel soap work?
Stainless steel soap does not remove odors by cleaning like normal soap, but by a chemical reaction on the surface of the steel. Strong cooking odors like garlic, onion, and fish are caused by sulfur compounds (such as thiols). When you use the stainless steel soap under running water, these odor compounds bind to the chromium oxide layer naturally present on stainless steel. As a result, the odor compounds are drawn from your skin and neutralized, instead of just masked. The water then washes away these bound odor compounds.
