Our Sustainability Impact in 2024: Facts, Figures, and Savings

Our Sustainability Impact in 2024: Facts, Figures and Savings

Sustainability is central to My Green Deal, and in 2024, together with our customers and partners, we have made significant progress. In this blog, we share concrete figures about the impact we have made this year.

1. Circular Economy: 456 Products Given a Second Life

With our return deal, we have given 456 products a second chance. This means less waste and less new production. On average, reusing a product saves 50 kg of CO₂, meaning that with these return deals, we have saved approximately 22,800 kg of CO₂ in total![¹]

2. More Sustainable Packaging: 10,000+ 100% Sustainable Shipping Bags

Instead of standard shipping boxes or plastic packaging, we opted for over 10,000 paper shipping bags. These bags:

  • Are 100% sustainably produced[²]
  • Save transport volume, leading to fewer emissions
  • Reduce plastic waste in the chain

Each paper shipping bag saves 0.1 kg of CO₂ compared to a plastic alternative. This means we have saved a total of 1,000 kg of CO₂.

Additionally, their compact size meant we needed 40% less space in transport, which led to approximately 1,000 kg of CO₂ savings on transport.

Total savings: 2,000 kg CO₂

3. Full Recycling of Plastic and Cardboard

Waste is a raw material! Therefore, we have:

  • Recycled 80 kg of plastic, separating it into hard and soft plastic at the recycling center. This resulted in a saving of 200 kg of CO₂.[³]
  • Reused 1,500 kg of cardboard by giving it to friendly companies who use it as shipping boxes. This resulted in a saving of 3,900 kg of CO₂. [³]

Total savings: 4,100 kg CO₂

4. Reduced Paper Consumption: Saved 100s of Manuals

We now offer customers the option to receive manuals online only. This has resulted in us saving a minimum of 500 printed manuals.

Since a manual weighs an average of 200 grams, this means a saving of 100 kg of paper. This is equivalent to 120 kg of CO₂ emissions that we have prevented.[⁴]

Total savings: 120 kg CO₂

5. Import Compensation: 35 Trees Planted

Our products are sourced globally, and in 2024, we imported 8 sea containers. To reduce our impact, we, together with our importer, planted 35 trees.

A tree absorbs an average of 22 kg of CO₂ per year, but over its entire lifespan of approximately 50 years, a tree absorbs 1,100 kg of CO₂.[⁵]

With 35 trees, the total compensation over their entire lifespan amounts to 38,500 kg of CO₂.

Total savings: 38,500 kg CO₂

6. More Sustainable Delivery Options: 2000+ Orders via a Pick-up Point

We offer our customers the choice to have orders delivered to a pick-up point instead of home. And with success:

  • Over 2,000 orders were delivered via a pick-up point
  • This saves an average of 4 km per order
  • With a saving of 160 g of CO₂ per km, this means a total saving of:

2,000 x 4 km x 160 g = 1,280,000 g = 1,280 kg CO₂[⁶]

Total savings: 1,280 kg CO₂

Outlook: what we will do even better in 2025

While we are proud of our impact, we know there is always room for improvement. In 2025, we will focus even more on:
Local production to reduce transport distances. Right here in the Netherlands.

✅ Using More sustainable materials

✅ Having each order contribute to a sustainability project of choice

✅ Further optimization of packaging and transport

Thanks to you, our customers and partners, we can continue to take these sustainable steps. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Let us know in the comments!

🌍 Total Savings in 2024

Let's add up all the figures:
Product reuse: 22,800 kg CO₂
More sustainable packaging: 2,000 kg CO₂
Recycling: 4,100 kg CO₂
Reduced paper consumption: 120 kg CO₂
More sustainable delivery: 1,280 kg CO₂
Compensation by trees: 38,500 kg CO₂

👉 Total savings in 2024: 68,800 kg CO₂!

That is equivalent to:
🌱 3,127 trees absorbing CO₂ for one year
🚗 ±573,300 km not driven by an average car

With these insights, we are entering 2025 even more sustainably! 💚
